the good the bad and the weekend

Somebody give Summer a ticket!  it's certainly going too fast!!  two weeks from today my kids will start school.  They are excited and ready.  Here are the newest good and bads:

Xavi shined like a new penny with his new team uniform he is number nine and that number is one of my favorite numbers. He was looking sharp my boy :)

Emma is having fun at Xavi's games and practices running around at the park and sharing chips and cookies with the other girls Emma is the youngest of all of them :  Well in reality the girls share with her as Emma rather eat what they have instead of what I bring for her :/

While talking to the kids I mention the word "groove"  well apparently that's a no no nowadays :(

Talking about urban dictionary instead of saying what's going on? you say what's poppin'? : /

Sophia let me use her laptop to edit some pictures I was working on as the desktop is very slow.
Once I was finished I told her she could trash them "okay" she said
"I will send it to my hopes and dreams that's how I named my trash can..."
Ahhh Sophie stop being so melodramatic! :/

Yesterday was our seventeen year anniversary, we did nothing special at all.  Xavi had a game.  Javier remembered sometime in the middle of the month that July is our anniversary.  I don't know how to label this one happy face, sad face or squiggly face... at least he remembers the month is July.
Oh that husband of mine!

This is nothing to brag or show off but last week we got up early and drove around the streets to find a homeless person.  There were lots of homeless. We found a woman in need, bad shape physically we went to McDonald's bought a breakfast Deluxe and an orange juice.  Drove back to where she was at and delivered the breakfast plate, she was very thankful. :)

Sometimes the kids or us adults complain about the things we do not have or wish we had more but we forget to give thanks for the things we do have.  There is real need out there.  I am glad my kids got to see it first hand and hope that one day out of their own hearts they have compassion and help those in need. So with this I cross off  item 29 on my 45 by 45 list.

And also last week I mentioned about the talk I had with my brother about investing and he told me to at least open  my investing account and I did last monday!  He also mention that I have to pay myself...that's something that I've never thought about.  Now I plan to save 10% of my shop profits and once I save some money I will start investing and since I wanna feel accomplished on my list because 45 is coming soon I will cross off another item yeah??

As far as the weekend, it was spent helping Valeria move in with a friend of hers.  Both girls rented their own apartment and both are full time college students and have two jobs each!  I remember when I had two jobs back in the day!!
This is how I felt about the anniversary thing!

I hope you have a nice smooth week and buckle up in case the road is bumpy!

spaghetti squash

As a typical mom I am always telling the kids to eat their veggies.  I am so proud to say that Sophia has improved so much, she now eats avocado, cucumber, spinach, mushrooms among other new to her veggies.  On the other hand, Xavi is a different story, he still refuses to try new veggies.  I hope that with age he gives them a try.  Sadly I am guilty of sticking to the same veggies you know the typical lettuce, tomato, onion, zucchini, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms etc etc.  There are a lot of veggies out there that I have never tried before.  Just a couple of years ago I tried asparagus for the first time.  I loved them by the way :)

I came across this supper easy spaghetti squash recipe online. Since we must teach our children by example I decided to give it a try and introduce it to the family.  I've heard and read good reviews about this veggie.  It is low in calories, fat, sodium and carbohydrates.  In addition it's high in fiber loaded with potassium, Vitamins C and A and antioxidants.  Sounds good right?

The recipe calls for a spaghetti squash. Wash it and make cuts all over with a paring knife.  Bake it for 1 hour at 350 degrees.  Cut it in half scoop out the seeds, then scrape off the flesh.  Mix it with 1/4 cup of butter and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.  Done.

My father in law was visiting and he had the pleasure of trying it out with the family.  He said he had never tried it before either.  We all tried it except Xavi and we liked it. I think it has kind of a sweet taste and heard that it makes a great substitute for pasta!  Next time I will try it with a sauce.

Well I've broaden my horizon, added a new veggie to my repertoire and completed one more item on my bucket list!

Here is a morning laugh:
Javier wanted to buy a couple of shirts, so we went to Kohl's per my request since I had a couple of coupons.  So it takes a little longer now to get to places with Emma, you know the car seat, the stroller, the diaper bag,  etc.  So we enter the store and the men's department is right at the entrance. Javier starts looking and in two minutes he's done.  He finds a shirt and picks three different colors.  What the heck??  I didn't even have time to get my phone out of my purse to look for the coupons!
I knew this was going to be a quick trip but come on!!

Just one more laugh, lately I have been covered in all kinds of bodily fluids that a baby can produce.
I really mean all kinds!!

Hope your week is going great my friends!

multitasking

via

Some weeks ago we needed to plan a weekend that was nearly approaching.  My Husbands's parents are divorced and each live 1 1/2 hours away from us (one lives north and the other lives south) We had an invitation from each one of them on the same weekend.
So I called my husband because his mom was me calling to plan the weekend. I told him we need to decide what we were going to do!  His answer:

"can't talk right now I have something
           on my hands..."

Oh yeah, sorry I totally forgot men cannot multitask :(

First Date

Today exactly thirteen years ago I went out on a first date with whom today is my husband.
One of the first things he learned about me when he asked me out was that I don't dance.
Hey! I had to tell him straight out I-DO-NOT-DANCE I told him no clubs or alcoholic drinks for me.
I was 26 yrs old weird you might think no??

So I picked the place, Corvette's Dinner in San Diego a burger joint with humongous and delicious chocolate shakes and greasy fries.  The waitresses are dressed in 50's gear, throw straws at your table  and often dance. I remember glancing at the  menu  laughing at the thought of eating 'The Rory burger'  a burger with peanut butter and bacon.  Of course the guy wanted to impress me and he ordered it.  I remember he said it was quite good!  Now I don't know if it was true or not.

Sophia and Xavi like it when I tell them these kind of stories like  how me and their dad met.  Or their birth stories I guess one day I will blog about them I repeat them time after time on their birthday's.  Have I told you that Sophia likes perusing through this blog over and over? and so does Xavi he likes the pictures the most.

Back to the story, we really didn't date much as we married in 5 months.  He is a man with a strong character not easily influenced in fact he is not influenced by anybody at all and me...well :/  He lacks patience and I have much more than he does.  He likes watching zombie movies and falls asleep on chick flicks.  We are different in many ways but complement each other in so many others.

I have experimented so many different things by his side like my first non virgin margarita and my first shot of tequila which was actually on my last Birthday.  Now I sip on a glass of wine once in a while.  He has taught me so many different things and I am pretty sure he has learned from me too (like not wasting toothpaste ah! I remember as we were newly weds I gave him a lesson on not wasting). He has helped me and protected me in this dog-eat-dog-world.

We might not agree on everything but we have learned to compromise most of the time.  Over the years we have grown together.  We have experienced triumphs and cried over defeats.  Although I do not take this date as an anniversary I remember it from time to time.  The question is does he remembers it??  you know the specific date and the details I doubt it...he would say "I did not try a burger with peanut butter!" he has a bad memory Oh I know he tried it!

In his words "one of his all time favorite songs" is this: Ball and Chain from Social Distortion

When I really had a chance I listened to it while reading the lyrics I asked him do you feel that way? (I was getting worried there for a minute) no he said I just like it.  And  if you listen to it you just can't help but sign to it.

Happy New Year and pentagon news lol!

It's not too late to wish you all my dear friends a Happy  and prosperous New Year, lots of health and laughter!

I am not really one to make resolutions, my husband does the writing, short term goals, long term goals, plans, procedures the man really write lots of things.  This morning he really made me laugh
because he was telling me that our home is our 'base' our pentagon where crucial decisions for our family are made. Home is where we make plans of attack and backup plans. I was not at all laughing at him I really love him because he is a true fighter and defender of his family.
He really ranks high in my heart!

Back to me:

This year I have some things I'd love to accomplish I don't want to call them resolutions but I will call them goals!
  • eat better
  • eat less
  • loose my love handles (eating better and less will help)
  • get the kids to eat more veggies
  • learn more about photography, maybe read a book about photography?
  • really really want to set my sneakers aside
  • try to worry less
  • should I try to dance??

Best of luck to all of you in this New Year!

Sharing!

Today I am sharing!!

A little background first, I have been without a headboard let me think back...humm? (hand on my chin and I am thinking very hard) We've been in Hemet for a bit more than 2 years and two months.  Ok, that means that I have been without a headboard for a bit more than 2 years and two months!

I found a DIY headboard project made out of used boards and put the husband to work!  I probably could have had my headboard sooner but I am not real handy with tools lol!!

First my custom made rustic headboard
...and I do have to say that I am in love with it!

Second thing to share, my crochet blanket!

Sophia found more uses for the blanket!

 and certainly Xavi did too!

My husband sighed when I told him I had another project for him.

Anniversary

Today it's my twelve year wedding anniversary!
Twelve years of ups and downs, better or worse, sickness and health.
After two kids plus the one he came into our marriage with we are still together
and only going strong...
He makes my heart happy, he makes me feel loved, safe and secure.

But my husband is the kind of men with the worst memory.
At the beginning of July he remembered it was our anniversary month.
He said "Happy Anniversary before I forget"
He asked me last Thursday when it's our anniversary again?
On Friday he said two more days and it's our anniversary.
I can only see that the man is working hard on remembering the date!
One more reason to love him!

I dare ask you do you have a man like mine??

Note to self...hopes

I just hope that in Xavi's future
there is a kind heart that reminds him once in a while
to call his mother.

Better yet I hope that he never forgets!

I have to remind my husband sometimes..

{this moment}

A Friday ritual inspired by  Soulemama

In her words: "A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week.  A simple, special, extraordinary moment.  A moment I want to pause, savor and remember."
