kids

Today's is Xavi's turn to be showcased in my blog.  A few weeks ago he needed a bandana for a school play.   We went out to get one and of course he had to try all the ways you can wear one.
I got my little camera out.

He loves to play chess and he teaches our neighbor to play. He is having another musical concert in school and this time he will play a solo.  I am very excited and looking forward to it.   I am so proud of my boy.

He lost a tooth yesterday and he put it in a plastic bag for the tooth fairy under the pillow.  I was thinking about how Sophie found out that I was the tooth fairy.  It was so funny she said that she had been suspecting for a while that it was me and when she lost a tooth she never told me and waited for the fairy a couple of days and it never came.  As soon as she told the tooth fairy came. Well, Xavi got his dollar bill this morning from the tooth fairy AKA me...yes!  no $20 or a trip to Disneyland this tooth fairy is frugal hahaha!!

Emma has been walking for a week now.  Finally!  Exactly 1 year and two months took her to take that leap of faith. She started walking balancing with her arms up in the air but a few days later she started dangling her arms like a little monkey side to side or like a little zombie.  So cute.  If "so cute" is even a full sentence...It's only been a week so all she needs is practice to perfect the skill.

I always think blurry pictures are the best.  Sophie always shows Emma Beyonce's musical videos. In the following set of pictures Sophie is "setting Emma up" so that we have a moment to study her spelling words. I had to hide in order to get these blurry pictures.

Isn't she adorable??  I couldn't just pick one so here is the whole set.  She will also sit in her couch to read books.  For a moment a brief moment...Oh my heart be still please!

sharing

So I had taken this cute pictures for today's post of What She Wore.  Yeah, I had  but having a wiggly toddler in my arms while trying to download them wasn't working yesterday.  I highlighted them all and accidentally hit the delete button.  DELETE.  oh no!  the toddler kept wiggling :(

When Sophia came home from school she asked to see the pictures again I could them she had liked them very much and so did I.  Well I had to tell the truth and the mistake I made.  She was nice and just reassured me that everyone makes mistakes.

So I have two things to share today.  Last week I burnt my first batch of kale chips...some came out very toasty and some crunchy.  I hate it how they make cooking seem so easy.

Another thing to share is my new logo for My Polyester Closet etsy shop.

Have you browsed my closet lately?

Spring break and life...

The kids have a week off for Spring break.  So they are sound asleep as I type all three of them yay!  We went to the drive in last Friday and watched Batman vs. Superman.  Javier had taken the kids to the movies and Valeria did take them too but I haven't been to the movies since Emma was born so we thought the drive-in was a nice option for me to join in the fun.  Sure enough Emma fell asleep and as a confession I almost did too.  I made a comment on the way home that I was really expecting my man Robert Downy Jr. AKA Iron Man to be in it...you know super heroes?  Xavi explained that this was the League of Justice Iron man is in the Avengers.  Oh ok sowhat do I know about super heroes then?

The most amazing thing happened while at the drive-in.  Out of nowhere came this red ball of fire in the sky that disappeared behind the big screen!  I've never ever seen a wishing star before, it was humongous Javier and Sophia saw it as well.  Xavi, well he was into the movie. So that was astonishing,  I hope I wished my dream on time.

I was due for labs for my hemoglobin A1C levels six month period.  I am now more than ever conscious about the things I eat but once in a while depending on my emotions I really let go and let's just say indulge...and sometimes when I am feeling low I plain don't care and eat whatever but then guilt comes later. I was thinking that I messed things up with all the Easter chocolates and goodies this weekend but labs came back and I am within normal range. Yay!

In Emma's news, she is still not walking.  Nobody is rushing her. She holds on to whatever is at hand and pulls herself up, holds on to the coffee table and "walks around it" holding on it.  She also cruises around the kitchen holding onto the dishwasher and the fridge leaving tiny hand prints...sigh.  She did take a step a few days back but decided she is not ready.  She loves to play with her plastic cups and bowls and stacks them or puts them inside each other then dumps them.  Then do it again.  She does this in the kitchen while I cook. My little helper there.
Here you can see she found the piano keyboard and of course wanted to see what it was all about.  She is so curious about everything. and is imitating what other people does.  I love that stage :)

Talking about music Xavi has come a long way with his trumpet lessons.  He comes home and shows me what he's learned and also learns new songs from watching you-tube for example the Stars Wars Theme. Just last week he was playing the Ode To Joy.  Oh I know that song I learned it Middle school I told him.  I said bring out your recorder and we can play it together.
No.
He said bluntly.
No hard feelings Xavi ho hard feeling.

Sophia wants to look for a job :/  She's researched for companies that hire 14 year olds.  She has also researched about child labor laws.  Oh this child of mine.  One thing is for sure this Summer she will go and volunteer at the Public Library but if it was a paid job of course she'd be more happy. She turned in a job application at Baskin Robbins.  Chances are slim that she will land a job at this age,.  She has no need to get a job but I applaud her for trying.

Well that's it for now my friends I hope you've had a nice week so far and higher hopes for a better weekend!

What She Wore

Is it possible that Sophie stopped hibernating...maybe yes! she felt like wearing dresses to school again!  We will see if the weather keeps cooperating and helps Sophie get in the mood for some more dresses.

morning laughs

This morning laugh post is mostly about Sophie.

I am always amazed that as parents we tell our kids over and over about things and they don't listen but once they hear it from someone else or find out some other way then they pay attention.I don't know if you are familiar with takis, they're this rolled corn tortilla chips hot and spicy and very addictive.  Very popular on this side of the states specially among kids and young people they're sort of like hot Cheetos.  Well Sophia read and I am so glad she did that they cause cancer and ulcers because all of the things added to them and the spiciness.  Well after reading that she has stopped eating them. She said a friend offer some to her in school and she said "Please don't I am a recovering addict!"  that did get a chuckle out of me!!

Sophia coming home from school looks in the mirror and says "OMG I have a bugger and nobody tells me anything!! Those are not true friends!!

She tells me:  "you guys are not spontaneous...like if I ask to go to 7-11 on a weekday you say NO! It's 4 O'clock! I would not take them on a weekday to 7-11 after school that's true.   In reality I would not take them to 7-11 period because what do you buy there? only junk food right?? That's what their dad would do. About the spontaneity she did get another chuckle out of me and it got me thinking she always complains about bed time too early, cleaning her room and taking trash out of her bathroom when it's full  and little things like that. Do I have too many rules?  I started questioning myself.  No I don't think so!  Just enough to make them clean and responsible adults. But one day just randomly  I will take them to 7-11 on a school day I guess it will be ok to bend the rules a little once in a while...

She asked last week to do her own laundry and I agreed.  I told her I would guide her how to sort the laundry and work the washer and dryer.  So she did a couple of loads and it all went well.  I specifically told her that I would hate for her to leave the clothes in either the washer or dryer for half a day (here I go with the rules again right?) Monday after school she came home saying "guess what mom I forgot to wash my PE clothes I guess I am not a responsible woman yet!"

Ha ha!! no my dear Sophie you're not a responsible adult yet, slowly but surely you will get there one day...
but I am proud of you already!!

For one last morning laugh today here's Emma eating avocado or is it an avocado mask?  but it's a good thing that she thinks of moisturizing her face at a young age! lol!!

Bookworm

Sophia is a bookworm!  She really devours books.  I am really amazed at how much she loves reading!  I told her that every time she reads a book and there is a movie about it I would watch the movie with her.  I think it's fun to compare the book to the movie even though I don't read the books.  For me it's certainly faster and more convenient at this time...by the way I still have to watch the movie The Lover..

Every couple of weeks or so she has a list of books to check out from the public Library.  Among one of her recent reads was Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.  The story is about a high school senior and a dying girl that trough friendship become inseparable.  Although the story is sad I enjoyed very much this drama-comedy movie very colorful and creative.

She also read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee a classic book that deals with the aspect of history in reference to the Southern US in the 1930s.
Once she finished the book we watched the movie we actually had to wait a couple of weeks for it because it had been checked out and it was on the hold list for me. The kids were discouraged at the beginning because of the fact that the movie was black and white...well I do have to confess that  I was a bit discouraged too.  According to Sophia there was a character in the book that was not in the movie and her and my favorite character was Scout that little innocent girl in the story.  I was surprised that Javier knew Gregory Peck who plays the fictional character of Atticus Finch the lawyer hero of the story.   In this story there is no vindication at the end towards African-Americans who were looked down upon and considered unequal so that makes it a sad ending  and a sad truth.

Classic book classic movie right? with this movie I cross watching a classic movie on my 45 by 45 list.  I wonder what's on Sophia's reading list next?

Oh and talking about Sophia she officially told me she's not wearing dresses until warmer weather!
Can't blame the girl!

brushes and color

I've never been a make up kind of girl.  Eye liner and mascara is enough for me.  I use eye shadow, powder and blush on special occasions. Maybe twice a year  :/

I know that make up can do wonders but I also know it's a lot of work and it takes time. I am 13 years older than my sister and I saw her outgrown me on the makeup issue.   I was fine with that.
She is the pretty one I am the crafty one!

I love seeing girls on TV with flawless faces perfectly colored.
Last week I felt sort of, kind of, kind of...very very stupid! I found myself watching youtube videos on how to apply eye shadow.  I was feeling like "Claudia you should have done this 25 years ago"

I knew there was a bunch of special brushes but never knew their specific purpose. I've always used that little applicator that comes with the eye shadow kit. Online I found an eye brush glossary which I found had too much info for a first timer, but with it and the youtube tutorial I was able to find out the basic brushes, get some ideas and inspiration for the beginner that I am.
I went out and spend 10 whole dollars on a few brushes and a new glittery eye shadow (please read the sarcasm between the lines on that last sentence).  Sophia and I tried them.  I was surprised that she has more make up than I do from past Christmases gifts.  She is not that much into make up either. She told me I can play with her eye shadows whenever I want to. I am excited!  thank you daughter!

On my 45 by 45 list I have this item to fulfill which is to try out liquid eyeliner, oh well ... I've always been a late bloomer. For now the tickle of doubt about eye shadow and eye brushes is gone now nothing left but practice practice!!

I hope your week started off with the right foot today!

What She Wore

Last Saturday we enjoyed our city's Christmas parade.  It was fun we all liked it and so did Emma although she took a nap right in the middle of it and nothing really bothered her.  I really like it when she can sleep over any noise.  Later she woke up and enjoyed it some more.

Sophia is not a sports person, she does not like any sports at all or physical activities whatsoever music is her thing. Lately she's been toying with the idea of joining a dance studio.  There were various dance studios at the parade.  So this week we finally went in and inquired about the classes.  It's almost the end of the year and the classes are getting ready to perform at various events therefore Sophia will get to take a free class on Thursday December 17 to get a feel for it and if she likes it we will register her to start classes in January.  Yay!  more after school activities to make the day even shorter :/
Maybe she will be in the next Christmas parade!

This is our weeks photo shoot.

the bully

I repeatedly tell Sophie she should join the drama club...often I hear her say:

"Mom Emma bullies me, she pulls my hair, spits on my face while blowing raspberries.  She takes my glasses off and drops them on the floor, she scratches my face and neck, she wants everything that's on my hands only to drop it, rip it or destroy it...she likes stepping all over me.  I am doing all I can but this relationship just isn't working"

I giggle at the sound of her 'complaints' about Emma!

But my heart melts when I hear her say:

"Emma you are the love of my life, I love you!"

*ps I love the very last picture on the right, Emma's little mischief look.

What She Wore

It's been in the mid 40's in the morning these past few days...very cold for us Californias that always complain about the heat and cold.

As I started to write this post I remembered that last year I came across this meme on Facebook and shared it on my feed.  I just had to go and dig it in order to share it with you guys.

Anyways, the weather is basically the reason why Sophie has not wore a dress these past few weeks. Last Sunday she bought this dress.  I guess she was eager to wear it for the first time because she said "I know my fans are waiting so let's do a photo-shoot!..." ay Sophie!!

and then there I go overboard with the pictures but honestly I loved all the pop of colors in this session!
Hope you enjoy it as well!

What She Wore

Well I have been out, not fishing though.  It took five days of eye drops for Xavi's eye to get better soon after Sophie started with cold symptoms and an asthma flare up.  Then after that Emma started with mild cold symptoms as well, she still is coughing a bit but is much better now.

We took these pictures on the last week of October but I just could not find the time to put the post together let alone publish it :(  Long story short our laptop is dead.  Long gone by now I only have a desktop computer which is very very sloooow and it takes me forever to download pictures :(  time is precious and I really hate it that it takes so long.  Oh well, sigh.

Anyways, for this session we decided to take pictures right in our front porch.  Why not?  it was very convenient.  Xavi didn't know about the What She Wore series so he was like what are you guys up to??  that's why I let him in in a couple of pictures.  Since they were all wearing red for Red Ribbon Week why not get them all together?  So there they all all three of my kiddos in the very last picture.  I feel I have my hands full all the time with them but I know that I am blessed!
