What She Wore

Last Saturday we enjoyed our city's Christmas parade.  It was fun we all liked it and so did Emma although she took a nap right in the middle of it and nothing really bothered her.  I really like it when she can sleep over any noise.  Later she woke up and enjoyed it some more.

Sophia is not a sports person, she does not like any sports at all or physical activities whatsoever music is her thing. Lately she's been toying with the idea of joining a dance studio.  There were various dance studios at the parade.  So this week we finally went in and inquired about the classes.  It's almost the end of the year and the classes are getting ready to perform at various events therefore Sophia will get to take a free class on Thursday December 17 to get a feel for it and if she likes it we will register her to start classes in January.  Yay!  more after school activities to make the day even shorter :/
Maybe she will be in the next Christmas parade!

This is our weeks photo shoot.

not eternal

"No Sophie Summer is not eternal" were my words while driving to school as Sophie was voicing her concerns yesterday. The lazy days of summer are over for my kids only to start a new school year.  Just on Sunday they came back all pumped up from Borrego Springs a tourist village nestled between a desert and the foothills of mountains.  My brother took them as he always does during the summer to their annual road trip.  Then that same Sunday afternoon we had to run to Xavi's baseball picnic to get his trophy...not much time to unwind so just like that summer came to an abrupt end.  "No Sophie Summer is not eternal"...
Xavi is going to 4th grade and Sophie to 8th grade.  How did this happen?  I am still trying to figure it out :/
I remember how nervous and uneasy I felt starting a new school year...even in college every semester ughh!  that feeling you get in your stomach not fun.  Xavi had concerns of his own "I've heard nasty rumors about that teacher!"  Oh that look in his face, yup he was worried.  Luckily he came back home happy and relieve that the teacher is not that "bad".
Sophie was able to  photobomb Xavi's picture. But God forgive the hour when I told her I needed to take a picture of her at her school,  NOT!! she's way too old for that! It's embarrassing she told me!  she just took a selfie. :/   She came home with the #problems because she had been placed in the wrong lunch period.  She said she liked all her teachers so far rating them 4 out of 10 and 5 out of 10 the ones she liked the least the rest ranked higher on her scale.  She said if OJ got away with murder she could handle 8th grade!  my kids are growing up way too fast. What does Sophie know about OJ anyways?? :/ sigh.

morning laughs

Every day as I pick up Xavi after school he greets me lovingly with the words "mom I missed you so much, I thought of you all day long!" how sweet and caring of him.  He has always been like that a lovable and caring boy.  Last week he added one more line to his greeting, he told me...

"I bet if I tested all the moms in the world you would be the bestest one, you would be the one for me".

That warmed my heart and almost made me teary eyed.  These are moments truly to be cherished...

This past Mother's Day he had a little surprise for me...breakfast in bed!

Of course I thanked him we hugged I also told him
"Xavi I love your picture you came out great!"  Mom that's you he replied...
oh yeah I see the short hair and the red lips. :/

On the other hand last week I asked Sophia to give me a kiss as I dropped her off to school and she said eww!! no mom let's not do this.  I'll give you a kiss at home.

I guess it's not cool to kiss your parents in front of your peers when you are 12 years old.

Anyways I'll just keep the happy memories on this post. sigh*

spring break

This past  Friday the kids started their 1 week Spring Break. Sophia received an award for reading.
I was at the parking lot waiting to go in the multipurpose room
when I saw her name popped up on the screen :)
Although there are days that are not easy, she still makes me proud in many ways! Right after school we drove to San Diego to a Quinceañera party.
Not happy about the dress but her Christmas socks made her feel comfortable, she was wearing my black wedges here... she wore her old tennis shoes to the party.
Here is the Quinceañera and her dance which is the most awaited moment of the night.
I don't like feeling tipsy in front of people but I had two margaritas...I drank them slowly very slowly.
Then I had a sangria...awe!! yeah I was feeling good!
We had fun at the photo booth
I told my husband don't wear the boa...but he insisted.  You see that tall girl on the back?  she is my husband's sister she is a tall girl.  She is only 16.
Saturday morning after we slept only for about 5 or 6 hours we woke up early, to meet my mother in law because I was crossing the border to drive her to the airport.  At the border on the way back I got a strawberry and lemon ice cream...well deserved.  Then when I crossed we drove back to Hemet.
I just felt life taking a long long nap!

teacher reviews

Hey guys how have you been?  Life has been happening so intense for the past weeks!  But all is good.

I know I haven't been blogging much lately and it seems all I blog about is Sophia so here it is another post about her.  I just can't help it.

Right after Christmas break I got her grades by mail and I read them aloud.  Nothing to be upset about all A's and B's.  I am so proud of her really!  One of the teacher's comments though started a commotion and she initiated all this sista ranting and venting like she needed to get it out of her system.  Walking around the dining table waving her arms up and down getting all worked up.

You might be thinking what was the teacher's comment?..."Student shows lack of participation."  It was her P.E. teacher who had given her a B by the way  but the comment hurt her deep.
That is what started it all.

I had to tell her to stop take a deep breath and talk slower because I needed to document the info.  It was too funny Xavi and I could not stop laughing.  It brought me back to my Middle School years when I fell in love with my P.E. teacher (apparently not in Sophia's case)  So here is what she had to say about each one of her teachers and for her protection she made me swear that I wouldn't say the name of the school nor the full names of teachers.

P.E. teacher Mr. K.
-Who does he think he is?  Who is he to judge me?  all he does is blow a little whistle and we are his little ants running around the fields.  Ah!  Lack of participation?  I'd like to see him running around the field non stop and then giving me 20!
-He is always in such a bad mood.  He is mean to everyone.  You hear all these stories about him.  One time I was doodling around my name and he was like:  I CAN'T SEE YOUR NAME!  WHY DO YOU DOODLE AROUND YOUR NAME!  DON'T DOODLE AROUND YOUR NAME!!  Gosh I was just doodling :/

-Now, Mr C is so selfish.  He thinks he is the only teacher I have.  I like him a lot but I have other classes too you know.  He gives me a stack of homework every night.  He says: you are sixth graders now you can do anything that comes at you.  Like if he throws a brick at me I have to be ready to catch it.

-OK this is going to be long and painful...all Mr E does is complain how we are not quiet enough.  I am trying to write the pencil squeaks and he turns around like a snake and hisses SHHHHH!!! he is like a cobra.  I don't even care as what he gives me as a grade anymore all I want to do is pass his class so I don't have to see him again!

-The pregnant lady, she does not know how to run her class.  She is too nice and she does not know how to tell someone to be quiet.  I am quiet and have a B in the class.  Most of the students just talk and don't do any of the work.  All she does is sends them out for 5 minutes like babies while she should be handing them to the principal.

-This teacher is just plain unfair.  I work hard to keep grades up.  I think I deserve an outstanding next to my grade but no the only people she gives an outstanding mark is the teacher's pets.  I am not willing to be a teacher's pet.  I don't like her.

She also had her last words on this matter.  "Now, I've let all my anger out, next time I have any complains or am mad at any of my teachers I will just go to your blog immediately mom!"  I tell her all the time she should start a blog.

Do you have any wonderful or awful memories from Middle School teachers?

A mothers gotta do what a mothers gotta do

As a stay home mom I have to deal with different many things on an everyday basis.   The other day I saw on the news that Kohls is hiring 50 000 new employees for this coming shopping season.  I mentioned it to my husband and he told me go ahead might as well get yourself a full time job, we're going to like the money!  What?? that was not the answer I was expecting.  You see he was giving me the guilt trip (my mom used to do that and I hated it) as macho as this might seem he wants a woman at the house taking care of the children and the house and I want that too.  This has worked for us for 14 years.  I tried going back to work when Sophie was a toddler but it wasn't really what I wanted. I won't deny that I have those days when I feel underestimated, when the house is a mess, the kids don't listen and won't eat my food.  But fortunately there are also the good days.  For example when I go to a school and see my kids receive an award when the house is squeaky clean even for a few hours!  I truly have a lot of respect for those women that have a full time job and also take care of the house and children. Hard work that is.

The other day I got a card on my Birthday that says how much I make our family special and that I've touched their lives.  I also loved the stick family they drew and the fact that they went back and drew some curls on me (Xavi 's told me over and over that he likes my old hair)  you know Moncy is Sophia right??  Anyways, this card made me feel loved and made me realize even more that my family needs me at home to help them and deal with the pains of growing up.

For example, Valeria will be 18 this coming March and will be out of High School.  Things are getting serious for her now.  She will be going to a community college and eventually transfer to a state university she wants to become a school psychologist.  Even though she is living with her mom at this time my husband and I are staying on top of her in school and job related issues as she wants to find a part time job.   For us that would not be a priority but she certainly wants some independence.

Now going onto Middle school situations, last Wednesday when I picked out Sophie from school she told me "mom I got in trouble"  what kind of trouble? I promptly asked her.  According to her there are various degrees of trouble from worst to least worst:
OMG! Sophie!!
Ay!  Sophie!
Hmm! Sophie, Sophie...

According to her this was a Hmm! Sophie, Sophie... She had been warned one time already and got caught talking in class.  She had to write 10x this paragraph where she stated what she did wrong and needed a parent signature.  So she did the crime and also did the time.

The following day she got in trouble again.  This time she seemed a bit more preoccupied!  This time it was at during lunch .  She threw and apple at a boy!  OMG! Sophie!!  This certainly deserved the worst degree. According to her the boy threw chicken at her first.  She was caught and taken to the office she would  pick up trash during lunch time the following day.  But since she didn't know the other boy's last name the Assistant Principal didn't do much or brother to find out who the other boy was.  She got a long lecture from me, you know you usual you tell a supervisor first, respect your fellow students to avoid problems, two wrongs don't make a right, the second person always gets caught first, you need to pay for actions, hope you learn the lesson blah blah blah...

The one thing that bothered me a lot was that the other boy was not punished.  So we came home and I told Sophia to immediately find that boy in the school yearbook (as he was in Sophia's school last year)  The following morning I went straight to the principal and I really mean straight as I didn't bother talking to the secretary because she was too busy with another parent.  I explained everything and handed him a post it note with the boys full name, grade and class that he shares with Sophia.  He was like "wow you did the homework didn't you?"  I also wrote my phone number in the back so he would call me once he found the boy and had applied the same punishment.  He did, he called me about 30 minutes after school started and had found the boy and both kids had to pick up trash on the school grounds during lunch.  Sophie told me how she likes having a mama bear!

My husband had a different approach to the incident.  He told her "So I heard you threw an apple at a boy?  Good for you!  You need to protect yourself, get back at him and stand up for yourself.  Don't let any body throw food at you.  Only next time make sure you don't get caught!  That is his way of thinking, I know it's not the best of a parents reaction but in a way I am glad he teaches survival skills to his daughters and son.

Going into another topic Xavi's school is having a fundraiser profits from this sale will go directly toward programs and materials to benefit the students.  If the students sells 10 items they get to go to a D.J. Glow party just like the one at club penguin  Xavi says.  He is all excited, I am buying two items already.  So if you have a chance and need to do some shopping and would like to help please do so your help would really be appreciated.  If you can't, that is ok too.  I am just a mom advertising and trying to help my son  go to a D.J. party

CAWSTON PTA is having a fundraiser. You can shop online at

West Coast Fundraiser
The school receives profit from the sale and the student will receive prize credits. Enter the student ID below to begin.

Morning Laughs...another parking lot chit chat and magical creatures.

This very morning Sophia out of the random told me
"I would not be so afraid of spiders if they could talk"
Oh yeah?  I said, what would you talk about with a spider?
She said..."If a spider came in the bathroom when I was showering, I'd say Woa woa woo! Excuse me, I am taking a shower here.  This is occupied."

Picture my Sophie moving her head from one side to another tossing her long crazy wild curls and moving her hands frantically and then taking one hand to her waist.
You know the girlfriend talk...

Spider tag
Sophia often talks about the meeting extraordinary creatures and things that would help her survive the zombie apocalypse.  Sigh!  the zombie apocalypse...She says she wouldn't buy the Zombie Survival Guide because she is saving money, but she would borrow it from her cousin though.

Among these creatures and things she wants to meet one day are unicorns, vampires, Santa's Elves, Tooth Fairy, Pot of Gold, Magical Panda, Fairies, My Little Pony, The Little Mermaid, her own shadow, Three Little Pigs, Dragons, The Grand Witch, Goddess of love, God of the Sea, God of the Skies, God of the underworld.

Oh my I think!  Lots of TV, Netflix, reading lots of books and a whole lot of imagination.  When I was a child I played with My Little Pony but certainly never hoped to meet one and I only hoped for the Tooth Fairy when I lost a tooth now and then.

There was something I loved about our little chit chat and it was certainly her last line.

"When I am dead I'd love to met my Creator.  The one and only true God that made these magical creatures just for me."

Parking lot chit chat

Now that school has started let me tell you that we survived the first week, fetching class schedules,  running my regular errands, buying school supplies (because really I wait until teachers tell me what the kids need) back to school night and a million things in between...did I forget anything??

I hope they had the same schedule but now I have 1 hour gap between the hour that I drop off Xavi and the time I need to drop off Sophia in the mornings. Same in the afternoon.  Sophia and I both agreed that during that gap we wouldn't come back home there is really no point in driving home and wait 30 minutes and then having to drive back to school.  Both schools are on the same street.  We figured out that we could use that hour period wisely and go to Target, the grocery store or the Post Office if I need to drop off any packages (luckily the Post Office at Winchester opens at 8:00)  Basically run errands.  On the days that we don't have the need to go to any of the places I mentioned before we just park in the school parking lot and wait for school to start.

So the first day that we parked, sat and waited  Sophia started talking to me about the different groups kids associate in schools. We had recently watched one of my favorite movies "The Breakfast Club".  This movie looks into the lives of five teenagers coming of age.  I know she got some inspiration from this movie.  Following are some of Sophia's worries, thoughts and some of her words and following are my thoughts are in red.

Mom I don't know who I am?
I am still trying to figure out where do I belong?
I'm not cool (yeah you're not the most popular girl)
I'm not Emo (:/)
I'm not girly (you were before then started not liking the clothes I picked out)
I don't like sports (well you really should exercise more)
I'm not a criminal (thank Goodness!)
I have my brain half full (meaning she is kinda smart, but she really is smart)
I'm not goth (thank God again)
I might be a weirdo (aren't we all in a way)

First, I have to confess that I burst out laughing, yes I did!  She is such a drama queen.  Now, I know she was being melodramatic with her tone of voice and her big smile on her face but I am sure glad she takes the time to talk to me about all this. I know some of these fears are very real and vivid for her don't get me wrong (I was a tween once)  I told her hold your thoughts let me grab pen and paper.  I have to document this.

Second, I assured her that she is a normal 11 year old girl.  I told her to be herself be confident and make smart choices.  People like to belong in groups and that is ok.   You  do not have to belong to one or fall into a single category.  You do not all have to be the same, dress the same, talk the same .  You have the right to be yourself and be different.  You can be friends with lots of people (hopefully not the criminals).  It's ok to be different that is what really makes each one of us special, interesting and unique.

Can't wait for our next date at the school parking lot really!

Oh my dear Sophie!! I am sure she will succeed in life, be a great woman and have a great future!  She has a personality of her own and along those insecurities she has a lot of confidence in herself.  I think she is a normal young lady just growing up...jikes!  Did you have any insecurities while growing up?  Did you work hard at fitting in?

This and that...and a new school year

I've been kinda busy this past week trying to find the perfect backpack for Middle School and the coolest one for 2nd grade.  The kids started school this past Monday and it all went well despite all the mixed feelings and emotions and all the knots in the stomachs (us parents had those knots too).

These were the happy and not so happy faces on the first day of school

It's hard to believe how fast summer went by.  Really where did it go?  Soon we will fall into a routine again and long for summer to come.  Today being the second day of school we picked up Sophia in the front gate.  As all those tweens and teens a great majority of them taller than me walked by us only one thought came to my mind "Don't these kids know that deodorant has been invented?  and "Don't they know  that in a 100 degree weather it is an unforgivable sin to not wear it?  gosh really!

Speaking of summer I accomplished many of the things that I set my mind into it some I didn't (no surprise) one of them being my bike project :(  But I still don't give up, I basically shared some of those goals to make me accountable for them so I still want to get my hands on that bike of mine and give it that makeover...someday I will!  I know that!

Morning Laughs...Life is not fair

As the beginning of a new school year approaches fear and excitement have possessed my Sophie.  It's funny she reminds me of me because I felt the same way at the beginning of each new year "I do not want to go to school" were the words I repeated over and over.  Sophie has been a little drama queen lately.

These are only some of the funniest phrases she mumbles non stop.

...I don't wanna die in Middle School
...Life is so unfair
...On top of that I have to get a shot? (vacc)
...I have to go survival school to met new friends? learn about the school?
...I have to go the dentist ( that specific day she had a dentist appointment)
...I have to eat a salad (that specific day I made her eat a salad)
...Before I was at the top of the food chain now I am at the bottom,
6th graders are fresh meat for 7th and 8th graders
...I want to stay home watch TV eat popcorn and gummies
...will you walk me to school the first day?  because I want to look cool
(meaning please don't walk me!)

Today she is off to 6th grade survival camp.  I am hoping that will help her ease her worries and fears and reunite with old friends to ease the transition.

We also got a new puppy at home.  Her name is Diamond Lola, we couldn't decide on just one name so we we gave her a middle name.  It's been so long since I've taken care of a puppy that I feel a bit nervous.  I really don't want her to be an inside dog but I already fell in love with her.   The kids are very excited and are taking very seriously the responsibility of a new puppy (walking, cleaning, feeding etc) which is a good thing that takes their minds off TV and computer.

Welcome home Diamond Lola!  You will probably see her around here often :)
