Starting this Monday I will be featuring handmade artists on this blog of mine. I really hope you enjoy meeting them as much as I do. I will start off with myself. I see the need to be the first one featured here only as an introduction to those new readers that do not know much about me ;)
Here we go!
1. Tell us as little or as much as you like about yourself.
My name is Claudia I am a full time mom Sophia 9, Xavi 4 part time mom to Valeria 15 I've been married for twelve years to my wonderful husband Javier we live in Hemet CA we have two fishes and 1 dog. I love all sorts of crafts, DIY projects, shabby chic decor, thrifting and shopping and I can't get enough of etsy! I wear my jeans and sneakers mostly everyday and makeup and high heels only on special occasions. I love my life my family and thank God for all of his blessings! I also thank him for the opportunity to be a stay home mom to raise my children and for this world of handmade that gives me the chance to be a mommyprenuer only to support the habit of buying more paper and pretty materials to create things with my hands.
2. What do you sell?
I sell envelopes/stationery made out of recycled materials such as magazines, paper scraps, children books that have been discarded written on or ripped apart, maps and sometimes junk mail. I've always loved working with paper. With the opening of my second shop where I sell various things such as hair pins and hair clips, decorated clothes pins and garlands I was able to expand my horizons and use different materials which I'd been wanting to do so for a while.
3. Why handmade?
Handmade is just so special, there are no two items alike, no mass production! Handmade to me means talent, care, thought and a whole lot of love.
4. Where does your inspiration to create come from and/or your inspiration in life?
I think my inspiration comes from within myself. I've always had the need to use my hands to create something.
5. Besides creating what else do you do? Do you have a full time job?
My full time job is being a mom, wife, cook, doctor, nurse, assistant, housekeeper, referee a crafter and much more in between 24/7 no vacation, no holidays, no sick days but I enjoy it!
6. When did you start thinking you were an artist?
I really don't know if I would call myself an artist but a the age of six my aunt taught me how to knit and crochet. Don't ask me to read a pattern or write one because I don't know. I am a very visual person, I love crafts magazines and now with all sorts of DIY projects available on the web it is just fascinating. When I was a kid my mom worked everyday and Saturdays were her days off, as soon as we were done with the laundry we would go downtown to buy new yarn, needles, patterns and pretty fabrics for our projects. I remember a couple of times when she bought me a big bag of fabric scraps...I was in heaven sewing up new clothes for my barbies!
7. Who has been most influential in your craft work?
When I was 13 my sister was born and there I was being a mom to her. I knitted hats, booties and sweaters and I sew dresses for here. Then when I met my husband his daughter was three yrs old there I was knitting little purses for here. My nieces and daughter came along and the handmade just kept on flowing.
8. Where would you like to be in five years?
I am not one to make long term goals (my husband does that) but I will definitely would like to see both of my shops grow. I would love to have my own craft room in my house I really need that maybe even have a little corner in a store mall to sell my handcrafted creations.
9. Is there anything you'd like to try doing that you haven't done? crafts, sports, life in general
So much do to, so little money and time. A couple of yrs ago I saw a fascinating soap making video and I would love to give it a try. I would also love to be able to have a beautiful garden I do not have a green thumb :( I keep trying though and my mom keeps giving me advice!
10. Besides online where else do you sell?
I only sell on etsy. I haven't made time to check other craft sites out there.
