the lover

So this was difficult...prompt number 10 on my 45 by 45 list read at least 3 books.  During the summer I checked out a book and really didn't make the time to read.  I let it be overdue and as a good citizen paid my fine.  But just as the movie marathon I thought "come on Claudia you are almost there!"  I mean the first step was checking the book out right?  So I renewed it and gave it another chance.  I tried reading while Emma napped but didn't really worked out. The picture below I took the very first day I checked it out back in July, you can see Emma in the background still in napping in her baby swing. I found out that the best time for reading for me was at night right before bed when everyone was asleep.  It was so nice the house was quiet and I could really concentrate.  I also read bit and pieces right after I dropped off Xavi. This was at Sophia's schools parking lot she listened to music, Emma slept and I read...we made it work out.

The book was titled "The lover" an autobiographical novel by Marguerite Duras.  The story of a French's girl's life in Indochina, her affair with a Chinese millionaire, her relationship with her mother and two brothers are all intertwined and filled with pain, love, hate and fear.  I won't deny that it was a difficult read for me.  At times I found myself lost and had to re read again. I did enjoy the book which was also made into a movie and plan to watch it soon.

Two more books to go on this goal.  Any good books you've read recently?  This was a short book so I guess I was lucky too!

Half Birthday

Emma turns six months old today!  She sits for short periods of time unsupported.  Forget the rolling she left that in the back burner for now! I guess she is not interested in rolling anymore.  She calls people when they go by her with baby talk and sometimes screams to whoever is nearby.  She knows how to give kisses.  She fakes the loveliest cough of all seeking attention.  She sits on someone's lap with her hands being held and when prompted she will stand up, she loves being praised while doing this! If you could peek in my kitchen while its only the two of us you'd often see me singing silly songs and dancing as well while trying to cook.  She needs a personal entertainer this baby girl.  She is going thru separation anxiety so mama needs to be around her all the time I'll just enjoy this time because it surely goes by quick!! oh yeah and her first two pearly whites showed up last week with no extra fuss!  am I lucky or what??

How can I not celebrate today?

not eternal

"No Sophie Summer is not eternal" were my words while driving to school as Sophie was voicing her concerns yesterday. The lazy days of summer are over for my kids only to start a new school year.  Just on Sunday they came back all pumped up from Borrego Springs a tourist village nestled between a desert and the foothills of mountains.  My brother took them as he always does during the summer to their annual road trip.  Then that same Sunday afternoon we had to run to Xavi's baseball picnic to get his trophy...not much time to unwind so just like that summer came to an abrupt end.  "No Sophie Summer is not eternal"...
Xavi is going to 4th grade and Sophie to 8th grade.  How did this happen?  I am still trying to figure it out :/
I remember how nervous and uneasy I felt starting a new school year...even in college every semester ughh!  that feeling you get in your stomach not fun.  Xavi had concerns of his own "I've heard nasty rumors about that teacher!"  Oh that look in his face, yup he was worried.  Luckily he came back home happy and relieve that the teacher is not that "bad".
Sophie was able to  photobomb Xavi's picture. But God forgive the hour when I told her I needed to take a picture of her at her school,  NOT!! she's way too old for that! It's embarrassing she told me!  she just took a selfie. :/   She came home with the #problems because she had been placed in the wrong lunch period.  She said she liked all her teachers so far rating them 4 out of 10 and 5 out of 10 the ones she liked the least the rest ranked higher on her scale.  She said if OJ got away with murder she could handle 8th grade!  my kids are growing up way too fast. What does Sophie know about OJ anyways?? :/ sigh.
